Double Digits!

We are 11 weeks 1 day today! We finally reached that double digit mark when I visited my family last weekend. Which was super exciting because that puts us in the two-week-wait until our doctors appointment to have our first ultrasound (hopefully). :)

Here is my 11 week "bump:"
I apologize for the poor image quality. Clearly I need to clean my mirror off!

Here's what baby is up to this week:
11 weeks pregnant

  1. She's approx. 1.6" long and .25oz in weight (size of a plum or small lime)
  2. "Baby's favorite game right now is exploring her mouth and face.  Not only does this game improve your child's newly acquired voluntary muscle coordination of their limbs, but it also starts hard-wiring their hand nerves for newly gained sensations as they're now able to experience in their hands, because their palms can now "feel"!"-(babygaga.com)
  3. You can't see it, but she's moving fluidly and gracefully in there.
  4. Her skin is see-through, but she's on her way to looking more like a baby.
  5. Her fingers and toes aren't webbed anymore.
  6. Tooth buds, hair follicles and nail beds are forming.
  7. "Final interesting fetal developments for the week: their newly acquired swallow reflex, and the beginnings of a sense of smell, which when combined with their maturing taste buds, will provide your baby with their first experiences of taste and smell in the womb."-(babygaga.com) YUK!!

And how's MOM doing?:

Yep, she's still sick. 24/7
The good news is that we're almost to the second trimester so hopefully I won't be experiencing the sickness much longer. Additionally, my tummy and breasts have continued to grow and ache. And, I think I experienced my first symptoms of "round ligament pain" a few days ago. It occurred in my lower abdomen just above my pubic bone. It almost resembled the feeling one might have after an intense ab workout. Pretty neat but slightly painful. I can also feel what appears to be a small baseball like shape emerging out of my hip area. Hard to tell if its more uterus or baby at this point.

Another symptom that I've begun to experience is headaches. Though occasional, when they come it isn't pleasant. I've been trying to drink plenty of fluids since I've had a hard time eating but I can't seem to pinpoint which food are the easiest to digest that won't upset my stomach further. I've tried both salty and sweet with still no alleviation. Hopefully by week 13 I'll start to see these terrible symptoms subside.

My last exciting tidbit for the week is something I found on babyzone.com. This information helped ease some of the worries I had about gaining "too" much weight during this pregnancy. Though I'm down 10lbs now, I know I'll make up for that in the coming weeks...

Where do those pounds go?
Those added pounds are there for a reason; here's how they are distributed:
  • Baby: 7 1/2 pounds (average)
  • Amniotic fluid: 2 pounds
  • Placenta: 1 1/2 pounds
  • Uterus: 2 pounds
  • Breasts: 2 pounds
  • Body fluids: 4 pounds
  • Blood: 4 pounds
  • Maternal stores (like fat, protein, and nutrients): 7 pounds

How's that for education?

Until next time...Enjoy! :)
