How to teach an Old Dog new tricks..

Well, I think I've found a hobby again. To spare you the long story...I'll just say, I love to paint. It started at a young age in art class. To be more specific, middle school sketches and colored pencil works of art. Then when I got into high school I developed a stronger interest in oil and acrylic painting. These particular mediums takes much longer to dry but can produce such amazing results. Thus, here a couple of my oil paintings from high school art shows.

The bottom one is by far one of my all-time favorites. It took me approx. 4-6 weeks to complete as a senior project. Lots of layering!

Now, three years later I've decided I want to pick the hobby back up. Looks like I better brush up on my skills and supplies huh?! Here's one that I've been working on for about a year for Jason. I just kept putting off finishing it and now a week before his birthday I got all ambitious  felt guilty and decided I'd start again. It wont be done by then but I know it will still be special whenever its finished. This week I started layering the "foreground." It will be sporting a lot of details so it might take me yet another week to finish.

P.s. This corner in the office space has made for a nice little studio area--considering the only other purpose our office serves is a place to pay bills. :P

Luckily I found all my supplies from college so I won't have to start from scratch. I've painted a couple other notable pieces that I've given to relatives as gifts, so, the next time I'm back in Galesburg I'll have to take a few snapshots to post on here. Until then....this artist girl is going to enjoy the nicer weather for some inspiration.

Happy Monday!
